the Fundamentals: Authority Romans 13:1-2 Questions for Discussion and Reflection

Dig Deeper

When we affirm the sovereignty of God we are affirming that He is the highest authority with absolute right to rule over His creation. Because God is the highest authority all other authorities ultimately receive their authority from God. God rewards righteous (just) use of authority and punishes unrighteous (unjust) uses of authority. Understanding the fundamental of authority is crucial to finding maximum freedom under God’s authority.

Read Romans 13:1-2 and 1 Peter 2:13-17. What does our response to earthly authorities demonstrate about our attitude toward God?
