Fight for Joy: (Philippians 4:8-9) Questions for Reflection and Discussion

In his book Your Mind Matters, theologian John Stott affirms, “Opinions are stronger than armies.” Philippians 4:8 reveals a great weapon  in the Christ-follower’s fight for joy: our thoughts, “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things” (KJV, emphasis added).

According to the following Scriptures, to what are believers to focus their thoughts?

Deuteronomy 6:6-7--

Joshua 1:8--

Psalm 1:1-2; 107:43; 119:11--

1 Samuel 12:24--

Romans 12:1-2; 13:14--

Colossians 3:2-4--

1 Peter 1:13-14; 4:1--

2 Peter 3:1-2--

What instruction, caution or warning do the following Scriptures give regarding our thoughts?

 Isaiah 55:8-9; Psalm 92:5; 1 Corinthians 1:18-21--

2 Corinthians 10:5; Colossians 2:8--
