The events of Jesus’
triumphant entry into Jerusalem are recorded in Matthew 21:1-11; Mark 1:1-10;
Luke 19:29-38; and John 12:12-19. Here the crowds fulfill the prophecy of
Zechariah 9:9 and in so doing recognize Jesus as their King in much the same
way the ancient Israelites acknowledged the kingship of Jehu hundreds of years prior,
“Then they hasted, and took every man his garment, and put it under him on the
top of the stairs, and blew the trumpets, saying Jehu is king” (2 Kings 9:13,
KJV).
The crowd shouted in Hebrew “Hosanna!” meaning, “Save us!”Salvation is exactly what
Jesus had come to accomplish although it would look much different from the
temporal “saving” from the tyranny of their Roman oppressors most of the crowd
envisioned. Even so, the response of the crowds at Jesus’ triumphant entry into
Jerusalem is a picture of genuine faith. What additional insights about genuine
faith do you glean from the following Scriptures?
