Unstoppable: Acts 2:1-13 Questions for Discussion and Reflection

The festival of Pentecost (from “pente” meaning fifty) was established in Leviticus 23:16 (“You are to count 50 days until the day after the seventh Sabbath and then present an offering of new grain to the LORD”) to commemorate the completion of the harvest. What significance is there to the Holy Spirit being poured out on Pentecost? (see Acts 2:33)

What insights do the following scriptures provide relating to the supernatural manifestations that accompanied the pouring out of the Spirit?

John 3:8—

1 Kings 19:11-12—

Ezekiel 37:9-

Isaiah 6:6-7—

Genesis 11:7—

Compare Acts 2:13 and Ephesians 5:18. What is the connection between being drunk and being filled with the Holy Spirit?

What is the relationship between being filled with the Holy Spirit, the Word of Christ, and the Lordship of Christ in the everyday life of the Christian? (Ephesians 5:18, Colossians 3:16, and 1 Peter 3:15)

What confidence ought the knowledge of the Holy Spirit’s presence to provide to every Christian for everyday life and witness? John 15:26-27and Acts 1:8

1. When under the influence of drink, comes foolishness, under the influence of the Holy Spirit comes divine wisdom. Not just human wisdom, which is nothing compared to God's wisdom!

2.Drunkenness leads to debauchery, sing praises to the Lord always giving thanks to God the Father for EVERYTHING in the name of Jesus Christ, submitting to one another out of reverence to Christ. Get into the Scripture, read it often, know them so well that it becomes a part of you, the Scriptures live in you, let it be your guide as you teach and admonish one another with ALL WISDOM as you sing praises to the Lord. Be ready to give your testimony, with gentleness and respect.

3. The Holy Spirit will help us testify to the truths of Jesus Christ. He will lead us and bring to mind the truths He wants us to share. Therefore we don't need to worry about what to say. We don't have think that we have to put it in a way to convince others. He takes the anxiety away. I know those things in my mind, but as I share The Gospel, I still stress. :0(

4. The power comes from the Holy Spirit. How comforting to know that His power runs through me when I witness. WOW!!! Just last week I prayed with a lady and she said, "Did you feel it"? I didn't know what she was talking about. She said it was this tremendous heat that came from my hands into her body.

Pastor Mike, We are studying the Holy Spirit in Small Group. How timely, as it goes along with your study on Sunday. And how timely, as I am praying for His filling for a work I'm about to do. We serve an AMAZING GOD!!!
